Danakil est né en l’an 2000, de la rencontre de 8 étudiants de la région parisienne. Très rapidement le groupe a commencé à se produire sur des scènes locales, et posa dès ses débuts les bases d’une identité sonore qui le suivra, et qu’il ne cessera de développer.
Danakil was formed in 2000. It all started when eight friends from the Parisian area met to share their common passion for reggae music. Quickly after, the group began playing on local stages, having already set the basis of their musical identity which they’ve never stopped developing since then.
En 2006, après une centaine de concerts Danakil enregistra en autoproduction son premier album, « Microclimat ». Cet album est un recueil des morceaux-clés joués par le groupe depuis sa création, et qui ont attiré à lui un public fidèle et grandissant.
Le succès rencontré par ce premier opus marque le passage d’un fonctionnement associatif à un fonctionnement plus professionnel, il ouvre des portes à de nouvelles programmations et amène le collectif à faire de nombreuses rencontres décisives pour son développement. Aujourd’hui, avec près de 300 concerts à son actif, Danakil démontre qu’il est un groupe de scène, porté par une énergie collective communicative et un charisme grandissant.
In 2006, after about a hundred of concerts, Danakil recorded its first album which was auto-produced: “Microclimat”. This album is a collection of the key songs Danakil had been playing since its creation, the ones that attracted its loyal and ever-growing audience. The success of this first opus marked the end of their associative era and showed the way to a more professional status. They came across several decisive opportunities to build their network of contacts and helped them develop their programming system. Today, after more than 300 concerts on their list, Danakil has proved to be a real live group, carried by a collective and communicative energy and an ever-extending charisma.
En 2008, fort de l’expérience acquise, Danakil retourne en studio afin de préparer la sortie de son deuxième album. Intitulé « Dialogue de sourds », celui-ci balance entre reggae roots et sonorités modernes. Au long des 12 titres qui composent ce nouvel opus, Danakil continue d’observer et de dénoncer les travers d’une société en pleine évolution. Véritable témoignage musical, « Dialogue de sourds » reste fidèle au style revendicatif et engagé qui a fait le succès de « Microclimat ». A souligner la participation de nombreux artistes reconnus comme le trio mythique des Mighty Diamonds, le MC Anglais General Levy, ou encore le toaster jamaicain Jah Mason. Depuis la sortie de cet album, le groupe multiplie les dates aux quatre coins de l’Hexagone et s’affirme donc désormais comme étant un des groupes les plus actifs sur la scène française.
In 2008, strengthen by its acquired experience; Danakil went back to the studio to record its second album. “Dialogue de sourds” (“Dialogue of the deaf”), as it is called, is a stunning mix between reggae /roots and modern tones. Along the 12 songs, Danakil keeps on observing and pointing out the issues of the evolving society. Real musical testimony, the album sticks to their protesting and committed style that carried “Microclimat” to its great success. Several famous artists participated to its production such as the mythical trio of the Mighty Diamonds, the English MC General Levy or the Jamaican toaster Jah Mason. Since its release, the band has multiplied the number of concerts all over France and can now be counted as one of the most active groups on the French scene.
Danakil enregistre son premier album « Live » en novembre 2008 et un CD-DVD est disponible depuis le 03 avril 2009, tous les deux issus du concert du 26 novembre 2008 au Cabaret Sauvage de Paris. Cette soirée fut un réel succès et a permis d’obtenir deux heures de captation sonore, quatre heures d’images, avec en plus des bonus sur les coulisses du concerts et de la tournée 2008.
En effet, durant plus d’un mois, une équipe composée d’un cameraman et d’un journaliste a suivi le groupe pendant ses répétitions et durant toutes les étapes de la mise en œuvre du projet afin de montrer comment une telle production se met en œuvre aussi bien au niveau artistique, qu’ organisationnel. L’objectif étant de fournir au public du groupe un produit complet et de qualité, permettant de découvrir le groupe et la personnalité de chacun de ses acteurs. Actuellement le groupe prépare l’enregistrement du troisième album et continue de sillonner les routes du monde entier pour vous offrir toujours plus de concerts.
Danakil recorded its first album “Live” on the 26th of November 2008 at the Cabaret Sauvage in Paris; a CD/DVD of this event has been made available since the 3rd of April 2009. That concert was a great success and gave two full hours of sound capturing, four hours of images with additional bonuses filmed behind the scenes of the concert and the 2008 tour. During more than one month, a team, composed of a cameraman and a journalist, followed every single step of the project processing as well as all the rehearsals to show the elaboration of this type of production, at the artistic level as well as the organizational one. The aim is to deliver a complete product of good quality, revealing the group and the personality of each of the members to their public. At the moment, the group is preparing the recording of its third album and keeps on hitting the road worldwide to offer more and more concerts.
